Award Announcement

Awards will be publicly announced at the Community Celebration, tentatively scheduled for May 3, 2017. VCU and community partners are invited to attend.

Grantees from the previous year must make a presentation of their projects, outcomes and future plans.

Funding Period

The funding period will be from July 1, 2016 until June 30, 2017. All activities must be completed within 12 months of the receipt of funding.

Awards Dispersal

IRB or IACUC (requires log-in) approval (if needed) is required prior to release of funds.

The review committee may recommend that members of the funded team participate in additional training, such as an evaluation workshop, during the award period.

Awards of up to $20,000 will be made per project. Funding will be transferred to the home department responsible for fund disbursement and reporting activities and monies will be made available on July 1. Funded departments will have to request the transfer.

Be sure to provide the Division for Community Engagement with the fiscal administrator’s name, contact information and banner index.

Required Activities

A final report will be due to the committee within 3 months of the project completion.

Grantees from 2016-2017 must make a presentation of their projects, outcomes and future plans during the Community Celebration on May 3, 2017. Date is subject to change.

All publications, presentations, etc. resulting from the project must acknowledge financial support from the VCU Community Engagement Grants. For example:
This project [publication] described was supported by a grant from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Council for Community Engagement. Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent official views of Virginia Commonwealth University and/or the Council for Community Engagement.”

Adjustments

No-cost extensions are considered on a case-by-case basis. Send a written request that includes:
1.    Brief explanation of the accomplishments to date;
2.    Brief explanation of the need for the no-cost extension and projected outcomes;
3.    Revised timeline; and
4.    Is there any other noteworthy information you’d like to report?

The request should be received no less than 30 days prior to the scheduled end of the project period. Send to Tessa McKenzie, Community-Engaged Research Coordinator, Division of Community Engagement, at tcmckenzie@vcu.edu.

Minor budget re-allocations (less than $500) are allowed at your discretion without obtaining permission from the Division of Community Engagement. Re-allocations must be reflected in the final report.

Significant changes to the budget (more than $500) must be approved by the Division of Community Engagement. Submit a written request that includes:
1.    A rationale and plan for the reallocation of funds;
2.    A revised budget;
3.    A statement on how the change will further the project’s goals and objectives; and
4.    A description of how unforeseen circumstances will be addressed.
