Annual Appreciation Event Honors Partners
ASPIRE hosted its annual community partner appreciation event April 12 in the fireplace lounge at VCU’s West Grace South Residence Hall. The event recognizes and thanks community partners who provide service opportunities for ASPiRE students.
“Since 2013, this event has been held to recognize the tremendous amount of help, time, energy and effort that all of our community partners give,” said Erin Burke Brown, director of ASPiRE. “This event marks the pinnacle of another successful year at ASPiRE.”
The event coincided with a presentation at the Siegel Center by Bryan Stevenson, founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative. Attendees at ASPiRE’s event had the opportunity to attend Stevenson’s talk and were given a copy of his book, “Just Mercy.”
Grady Hart, co-curricular coordinator for ASPiRE, thanked ASPiRE’s community partners for serving as co-educators by providing ASPiRE students with real-life experiences as they help to address issues in the community.
Cathy Howard, vice provost for the Division of Community Engagement, thanked those in attendance for their continued support of ASPiRE and told them that a lot of ASPiRE’s success is because of them.
