MFYC Welcomes Alyssa King as New Program Specialist

Alyssa King has joined the Division of Community Engagement as a program specialist for the Mary and Frances Youth Center. In this role, she assists in coordinating the Discovery program and is responsible for the management of the Safety and Protection of Minors (SPM) Policy on campus.

“I’m thrilled to join the dynamic team here at the Mary and Frances Youth Center and the Division of Community Engagement," she said. "I’m looking forward to helping with the implementation of the Safety and Protection of Minors program policy and contributing to the already successful Discovery program. I’m most excited to get involved in the VCU and Richmond communities and help inspire youth to achieve their goals.”

In her role, King will work with departments, faculty and staff across campus to provide rising middle school students with an enriching summer experience through career exploration in Discovery. She will also support and educate the VCU community about the SPM Policy and resources.

King has worked in higher education for the past five years, focusing on student leadership development within the realm of student activities. She previously served as the assistant director of Student Activities at the University of Virginia.

King earned a bachelor's degree in English literature and a master's degree in higher education/student affairs from Florida State University.
