Community Engagement Grants

With support from the Office of the Provost and the Vice President for Health Sciences, the Council for Community Engagement (CCE) provides one-year Community Engagement Grants and one-year Community-Engaged Research (CEnR) Partnership Development Grants that will enhance and increase university engagement with the greater Richmond community and will contribute to the research and teaching of VCU units.

Applicants may apply for two types of grants:

  1. Community Engagement Grants to support community-engaged research, teaching and service projects.
  2. Community-Engaged Research (CEnR) Partnership Development Grants to support relationship building activities for future CEnR academic-community partnerships.

Community Engagement Grants

Community Engagement Grants, awarded up to $20,000, aim to advance community-engaged scholarship in any academic or academic support unit and can support a broad array of community-engaged scholarship. Proposals are encouraged from across VCU in partnership with Richmond-area organizations to creatively address community-identified needs through community-engaged projects including research, teaching, and service. Funded projects will serve as catalysts for on-going partnerships sustained by external funding.

CEnR Partnership Development Grants

CEnR Partnership Development Grants, awarded up to $10,000, are intended to support new or potential academic-community research partnerships. Funds from this grant are to be used for building and supporting research partnerships through relationship-building activities, exploring shared research interests, and developing infrastructure and governance for the research partnership.

The final deliverables expected for this grant are:

  • Research questions jointly developed by the academic and community partners,
  • A Partnership Agreement or a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), and
  • An evaluation of partnership development activities.

CEnR Partnership Development awardees are invited to apply for future support through the VCU Pipeline to Proposal Program
